How does the forest adapt to the changing seasons? Imagining themselves as photographers and equipped with cardboard cameras, students explore Mount Royal and "take pictures" of what they find interesting.
As they wend their way through the forest on snowshoes, students will attempt to decode the secret language of animals in winter. They’ll develop their tracking skills by searching for clues indicating the presence of animals and humans, past and present. This is a unique way of initiating students into a traditional sport while helping them discover ways of adapting to winter inspired by nature.
Starting point: Parking lot at Beaver Lake Pavilion, 2000 Remembrance Road, Montreal, Quebec, H3H 1X2
Level: Elementary Cycles 2 and 3 (ages 8 to 12)
Duration: Half day (2 h)
Rates: Half day: $14.50 per child (minimum $261) (rate includes snowshoe rental)
Pedagogical skills: This activity enables students to explore the world of science, use information and exercise critical judgment while working as a team with their respective groups. In developing their tracking skills, students learn about the diversity of societies and their territories. They will improve their knowledge of their own environment by gaining a better understanding of all the influences that have shaped today’s landscapes.
