In recent months, water management has emerged as a priority for the twelve institutions located on Mount Royal, who lately gathered for a community of practice organized by Les Amis to address this very topic.
Due to the number of projects being planned for the Mount Royal Heritage Site, several water-related developments may see the light of day in the very near future.
We believe that the sustainability of the ecological network on this Heritage Site will depend on the ability of those responsible for Mount Royal to adopt an environmentally-friendly water management approach that is both functional and adapted to the mountain’s unique needs.
To ensure that the developments respect the integrity of and enhance biodiversity, we believe that work must be planned in collaboration with all stakeholders of Mount Royal.
Our recommendations
- Embed a joint vision of water management for the Mount Royal Heritage Site into Montréal’s next water management strategy
- Initiate discussion with Mount Royal’s stakeholders in order to make regulatory changes that encourage an integrated approach to water management on this Heritage Site
The results of this public consultation will be made available in Winter 2024.
In the meantime, Les Amis will keep an eye on the City of Montréal’s intentions and will continue to build bridges between organizations involved in the territory.
