Montréal, November 21, 2024Les Amis de la montagne, as part of its mission to protect, educate and advocate for the territory covered by Mount Royal, has launched a fun and educational winter program for all ages. From December 21, 2024 to mid-March 2025, you can participate in guided discovery walks, new cross-country ski classes for adults, and outdoor activities like snow tubing and ice skating. There are over 60 guided walks to choose from, featuring six different themes, including: snowshoeing at night to catch the city lights, forest walks to learn more about flora and fauna, and birdwatching tours to observe different local species at bird feeders.

Six guided discovery walks to help you love winter
Bird Watching: It’s a Hoot! is an ideal family activity for observing birds and understanding how they adapt during the winter season (ages 5 and up). For birdwatchers ages 12 and up, there’s also Discover the Birds of Mount Royal, a guided discovery walk to learn more about our feathered friends in their natural habitat. By the Glow of the City Lights is a unique snowshoe walk that starts as night falls, so you can see the city lights from a new perspective (ages 12 and up, available in English and French). To learn more about the history of snowshoeing, there’s A Winter Wonderland, led by a guide who will also explain how flora and fauna adapt to winter (ages 12 and up). The Scoop on Poop–you heard that right!--is a fun family snowshoe tour that explores the mountain’s snowy trails and teaches kids about the animals that live there through the droppings they leave behind (ages 5 and up). Lastly, you can also choose a customized tour with one of our expert guides, who will introduce you to the treasures of our precious mountain, including its trails, historical heritage and breathtaking views too. Registration starts November 28, 2024: https://www.lemontroyal.qc.ca/en/public-programming

Expanded cross-country ski programming
Les Amis de la montagne offers cross-country ski instruction for children and adults of all skill levels (ages 16 and up), who wish to try this winter sport or perfect their techniques on the many trails of Mount Royal Park.

New this year: a six-session instruction class for adults! This class combines an introduction to cross-country skiing techniques with the development of basic uphill and downhill movement techniques (i.e. alternating step, weight transfer, balance, etc.). The goal is to nurture a love for cross-country skiing and develop confidence by practicing new skills on the mountain’s trails. Classes are offered from Monday to Sunday, between January 11 to March 7, 2025. The cost for six sessions is $220 (English instruction on Monday only). Sign up today! https://www.lemontroyal.qc.ca/en/adult-cross-country-ski-program

Snow tubing and equipment rental
Just in time for the holidays! Around December 20, snow tubing will be back on the mountain, offering thrills and giggles for children and parents alike, as they glide down our popular tubing hills. This activity is available until March, weather conditions permitting.

Don’t own the equipment for your desired activity? Les Amis de la montagne has a reasonably-priced equipment rental service for snowshoeing in the forest, cross-country skiing on our snow-covered trails, or ice skating on the outdoor rink at Beaver Lake. Equipment for all sizes too!
