Your donation helps protect Mount Royal–and so much more!
Our goal at Les Amis de la montagne is to protect and enhance Mount Royal—a green space that acts of the lungs of Montréal—by prioritizing:
- Community engagement, via our programs for the conservation of green spaces and environmental education, and;
- Advocacy for the mountain’s interests in order to enable better-informed decision-making that will support the sustainability of the Mount Royal territory.
In other words, our organization plays an important mobilizing role, working with citizens and organizations based on the mountain. More than ever, we must protect the integrity of Mount Royal and reverse the trend towards deterioration of its natural environments.
Our organization is also instrumental in raising awareness through the environmental education and outdoor recreational activities we offer for individuals, families and school groups. We believe in connecting Montrealers of all ages to nature in the city, so that they feel responsible for the health of our mountain, and preserve it for current and future generations.
Les Amis: A non-profit organization and a charity
Les Amis de montagne is a non-profit organization (NPO), with all profits reinvested in our organization's mission.
We are also a registered charity. That means we can receive donations for our mission, but more importantly, that we can issue tax receipts to our donors as well.

Donations are the lifeblood of our programs
Did you know that, although we operate in public parks, Les Amis de la montagne is completely independent? We rely on the support of donations, sponsorships and subsidies to carry out our mission.
Here is a breakdown of our financing in 2022-2023:
- 53% self-financed
- Revenues generated by our services, including Café des Amis, boutiques and outdoor activities
- 10% government subsidies
- Including programs run by the City of Montreal, the Government of Canada, and the Government of Québec
- 16% donations and sponsorships
- 21% other contributions
- Tax refunds, interest income, management fees and other intercompany transactions
Where does money donated to Les Amis go?
Thanks to the support of our donors, we accomplished the following in 2022-2023:
- 4,685 people learned about environmental conservation in the field with the help of our conservation staff and the Conservation Matters kiosk
- 1,430 plants were planted on the mountain
- 13,188m2 of forest environments were protected from invasive species
- 9,000 youth participated in educational and nature activities
- Unveiling of the 2023-2027 unified conservation plan for the Mont Royal ecological network that outlines concrete, critical actions necessary to securing the conservation of natural spaces on the mountain for current and future generations
