The current work being conducted as part of the Bridge-Bonaventure enhancement plan presents an opportunity to question relevant authorities about the strategies that will be implemented to maintain and enhance views of and from Mount Royal, as well as its presence in the landscape.
Furthermore, knowing that the health of Mount Royal's natural environments and green spaces depends in large part on their connection with Montreal's network of parks and natural spaces, we leveraged this opportunity to reiterate the importance of action in central urban areas to protect Montreal's ecological network, which includes Mount Royal.
Some of our recommendations
- Recognize the importance of Mount Royal’s presence in our city’s landscape, as well as the presence of other distinctive landmarks in the Montréal cityscape, as outlined in the plan’s main principles
- Define density guidelines that include height limits and that impose clearer separating distances between buildings, all to ensure the emergence of projects with a finer silhouette and with less impact on the visual barrier effect of Montréal’s downtown
- Conduct in-depth analysis on the views of and from Mount Royal for the Bridge-Bonaventure district, with the aim of protecting existing views and capitalizing on every opportunity to enhance them
- Make the restoration of ecosystems, landscaping, greening and natural infrastructure a priority in the borough’s plan
In coming months, we will closely follow the outcome of this public consultation, as well as decisions made by the City of Montréal, and by the Ville-Marie and South-West boroughs.
