Les Amis de la montagne proudly announces renewed partnership with City of Montréal

Montreal, May 18, 2023 - For more than 35 years, Les Amis de la montagne has worked in partnership with the City of Montréal to implement education, conservation and environmental stewardship programs in Mount Royal Park. Les Amis de la montagne is pleased to announce that the City of Montréal has renewed its financial commitment with funding of more than one million dollars over three years, so that our organization can continue to maintain a high-quality, natural environment that meets the needs of locals and tourists alike.

In addition to the financial contribution, this partnership also involves loaning the use of premises where Les Amis de la montagne staff can work, host activities and welcome the community. This also enables Les Amis to maintain its commitment to promoting and enhancing the biodiversity and greenspace in Mount Royal Park, as well as managing and developing its natural heritage. Les Amis de la montagne is a key partner in implementing the City’s Climate Plan and highlighting Mount Royal’s identifying features.

“The partnership between the City of Montréal and Les Amis de la montagne provides both organizations with a unique opportunity to pool our respective expertise and ability to act as part of our shared mission to provide services to citizens. The impact of our long-standing collaboration will continue to benefit all Montrealers who visit the mountain,” says Les Amis de la montagne’s Executive Director, Hélène Panaïoti. “We are pleased to pursue these efforts to ensure that Mount Royal remains an ever healthier, more welcoming and inclusive space.”

“Mount Royal is an iconic gem for which our city is famous. A veritable green lung in the heart of Montreal, the mountain attracts people from all over the world. However, such popularity comes with its own set of challenges, particularly in regard to the conservation and protection of plants and wildlife. This is why the City of Montréal is proud to have supported this partnership with Les Amis de la montagne for over 35 years. Through its educational programs and initiatives to preserve and protect the mountain’s natural and built heritage, Les Amis helps increase Mount Royal’s visibility and prosperity, and we need to take care of it,” adds Caroline Bourgeois, City of Montréal Executive Committee Vice-Chair Responsible for Large Parks, Mount Royal, Sports and Recreation, Space for Life, Parc Jean-Drapeau and East-end Montréal.
