Ragweed management

In a nutshell

  • What: This activity consists of uprooting annual ragweed, a problematic species that causes allergies in part of the population.

  • When: July 23, 4 PM to 6 PM

  • Where: Reception at Smith House

Activity description:

Considered one of the most harmful plants to public health in Quebec, annual ragweed affects nearly one in five people during the flowering season in mid-july. Because of its great allergenic potential, Les Amis de la montagne are working hard to limit its presence on the mountain in order to limit sneezing during this period. Join us in improving the quality of visits to the mountain !

As a volunteer, you'll learn to recognize ragweed and be asked to pull it out manually to control its spread.

Required materials:

  • Knee pads and gloves will be provided on site.

  • Long pants and closed-toe shoes must be worn.

Weather:

To ensure everyone's safety, we monitor the weather in the days leading up to the activity. Should adverse weather conditions be forecast 24 hours before the activity, it will be cancelled. An email will be sent to inform you.

Cancellation:

The activity will be cancelled in the event of:

  • High probability of thunderstorms

  • Winds and/or gusts over 60 km/h

  • Temperature above 38 oC
